NHRC issues notices to DM and Medical College, Meerut, UP on the death of a newly born due to medical negligence

New Delhi, 2nd January, 2014, The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a newly born baby died at Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh due to burn injuries as the radiant warmer got over heated.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise serious issue of violation of right to health and issued notices to the District Magistrate and Principal, Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh calling reports in the matter within four weeks.

          Reportedly, the baby boy had a premature birth on the 25th December, 2013 at a private nursing home in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.  Subsequently, the parents brought him to Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College for further treatment on the 27th December, 2013.
