NHRC notices to DM and SP, Mathura in a case of sexual assault
The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance a media report that a teenage Dalit girl was allegedly gang raped by six youths in Pingri village of Mathura District, Uttar Pradesh on the 19th July, 2014. Reportedly, she had gone to a temple to attend an overnight religious event. When she went to relieve herself at a nearby field, she was abducted and sexually assaulted. The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim and issued notices to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh calling for a report in the matter within two weeks. |
