ONE TO FOUR YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT TO EIGHT ACCUSED INCLUDING TWO MCD ENGINEERS IN A CASE RELATING TO ENCROACHMENT OF GOVT LAND

The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Patiala House Courts, New Delhi has convicted eight accused, namely S/Shri Quamruddin & Roop Chand, both then Junior Engineers, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Mohd. Salim Alavi; Mohd. Jahangir; Rajender Singh; Heera Lal; Khem Chand & Rajender Kumar (all private persons) in a case relating to encroachment of Government land. The Court has sentenced four years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.50,000/- to Shri Quamruddin & Shri Roop Chand, both JEs of MCD; four years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.45,000/- to Salim Alavi; three years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 30,000/- to Jahangir; Rajender Singh; Heera Lal & Khem Chand and one year Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 6,000/- to Rajender Kumar.

            CBI had registered a case on 11.2.2010 against Shri Quamruddin & Shri Roop Chand, both Junior Engineers, Slum & JJ Deptt., MCD, Punarwas Bhawan, I.P. Estate, New Delhi and other unknown persons U/s 120-B r/w 420 of IPC & 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of PC Act, 1988 on the allegations that the builders & land mafia in collusion with the officials of MCD, Slum & JJ Deptt. were carrying out illegal construction on the land belonging to MCD at Molar Band, Phase-I & II, Badarpur and also by forceful eviction of land allotted to Slum dwellers.

After thorough investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet on 30.06.2011 against the eleven accused persons before the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Patiala House Courts, New Delhi. The Trial Court found eight accused guilty and convicted them. The remaining three private persons were acquitted by the Court.
